If you just want a large screen, fast response, rugged, waterproof (IPX 7) GPS for navigation, and don’t want all the awesome features I will be describing later, then you will still want the Garmin Zūmo XT on your handlebars. The Garmin Zūmo XT has Wi-Fi connectivity, so you don’t need to access a computer to get free lifetime software and map updates. Don’t be afraid to tap on the icons and see what they do.

The easy-to-follow manual is actually viewable on the unit, taking up just a bit of the 32 GB internal data storage space. I don’t think this is an issue-after the first few rides, you will know which orientation you prefer. There are many ways to get to know all the features of the Zūmo XT. If you decide to change orientation, you will need to stop, loosen the glove-friendly wing nut, swivel the GPS, and then re-tighten the mount. The mount holds the Zūmo XT in either landscape or portrait orientation. The Zūmo XT RAM mount is a clip-in holder that appears to be secure, though I suggest you confirm that it is actually clicked in before heading off on a ride.

The thoughtful folks at Garmin provide four zip ties to help with the routing of the power cord. Otherwise, you can use the included Mini-USB cable or get up to six hours on the battery alone. If you want to use the really cool feature of suggesting gas stops, then you have to be hardwired to the battery.

For additional ride planning, download Garmin Basecamp to your desktop or laptop computer. You will want to register it on Garmin’s website, pair it with the Garmin Drive app on your smartphone, and with your helmet Bluetooth. If you want to find the twistiest way to get from A to B, it will show you via an on-screen slide switch the most adventurous route. To get the full value from the features of the Zūmo XT, you need to do some connectivity. Just type in the address on the glove-friendly keyboard and go. You won’t need to read the manual if you want to hop on your bike and go from A to B. If anyone else is having the same issues, below is the link to the fonts I've uploaded. When you open the box, the first thing you see is a big sticker: “Welcome! This product is ready to use”-and it is.

I may go in and edit all the font sizes and allignment at some stage, but I'm happy for now. I've now made these numbers taller and fatter so they display really well with the font size set to small. Since the tools->settings->display->font size makes all fonts smaller, I wasn't satisfied with the smaller size of the speed & heading/arrival numbers on the map page. The main place this is noticed is in a speed zone (school zone) warning.

Since I made the numbers a little squat and moved them up, anywhere the numbers from this font are used will display them a little higher and more squat than the surrounding text. There is a down side, but only a slight one. The end result is that it now displays the speed on the little sign as good as possible with the font setting back at small. I went to very small and it was still cropped and pretty small!įrom here I went to work on identifying which font was used for what, and found GarminDejaVuSans-Bold.ttf in the fonts folder (mmc->Garmin->fonts) is the one used for the speed limit sign.Īfter backing up my original font, I then went to work on making the numbers a little more squat, and also moving them up. I changed the font to small and I could see the bottom part of the numbers displayed. It make it easy to read, but the numbers are to big to display on the little speed limit sign. With the phone screen being small, I had the font under tools->settings->display->font size set to medium. I had the same issue with the "SPEED LIMIT km/h" sign being displayed but no speed in the middle of this on both my N95 & N96.

I've gone into the settings and enabled every warning I can find.Īlso I've downloaded the Speed and Red light camera's POI and the mp3 files for warnings - how to I install the mp3 files? It doesn't show the speed limit for any of the roads I travel on - I expected that on backroads but not on, say, the M4 / M2 in Sydney. I'm using Garmin Mobile XT 500.40 on my Nokia N95.
